Last night was one of the best nights of my life. I went to the Sufjan Stevens concert regardless of the world not wanting me to go. The whole show was an absolute feast for the mind, soul, eyes and ears. Sufjan has always been one of my top 5 favourite artists, and his performance last night did not let me down in any way. Full of bright flashy lights, space age graphics, and an energetic band to boot! Since it was the night before Halloween they all dressed up, Sufjan of course wore his angel wings, and the others wore clown wigs, dresses, and various other props. The opener was DM Stith, whom I had never had the pleasure of hearing before, and let me tell you, I most certainly will be adding him to my ipod very shortly. He is actually apart of the Sufjan band, and you can really tell. Youdefinitely can hear it in his lyrics and inflections. Gorgeous. Most of the night Sufjan played songs from his newly released album "The Age of Adz" if you haven't listened to it yet, I would whole heartedly recommend it. In my opinion it sounds a lot more like his previous album "Enjoy Your Rabbit" with all the electro-experimental sounds, but I think it's way better. The last song on his list was his classic "Chicago" By the last note, the whole audience was blown away, we all applauded and gave him a standing ovation. We all begged for an encore, and he delivered, he came out by himself, asked for more lighting, and began with "Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois"... chills. It was just him and his piano. Thats when the tears came, and kept flowing as he went into "Casimir Pulaski Day" "The Dress Looks Nice on You" and "John Wayne Gacy Jr." It was such a wonderful experience, I have never been to a more real and surreal show in my life. I felt like I was on another planet, but at the same time like I belonged, the energy and ora in that building was like nothing I have ever felt. I can only hope that I will get to see him again some day. Thank you so very much Sufjan Stevens
